Christine Conn Tuesday, 9/27/05, 5:21 AM Hi Karina, My name is Chris Conn & I was very excited to come accross your site about your ancestors recollections of the "Netherby" I am Secretary of the King Island Historical Society, and in our little museum we have quite a collection of information on the Netherby & some of the survivors, but I don't recall your ancestors name in our collection. I also work at the local Online Access Centre which is basically Internet Access to the public, our website is: www.kingislan.net.au which has a section on shipwrecks and one is the Netherby. Please go & have a look it may be of interest to you. Back to the museum, would it be possible to get your permission to use your data in our museum for others to read? Look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards Chris Conn From: King Island, Australia Email: cconn@kingisland.net.au What can you share about The Netherby? www.kingisland.net.au/~maritime/

Doreen Burge Thursday, 10/20/05, 12:24 AM Hello Karina, It was great to be referred to your site by Chris Conn from the King Island Museum. My father, Don Charlwood, had just completed a manuscript on The Netherby when we looked at your site. Dad has written a number of books on shipwrecks (see website, but note that the contact pages are not yet working), and had originally inluded a chapter on the Netherby in his book The Long Farewell. When that nmanuscript had to be shortened, the Netherby chapter was the one deleted, and since then Dad has always wanted to do a little book on the rescue of the passengers from King Island. And now it is almost ready to be printed. Our family publishing business (Burgewood Books - set up to keep Dad's books in print)is the publisher. Dad has just turned 90, but he has put in an enormous amount of work on the manuscript and is very keen to see it to fruition. His interest and the main focus of the book is the rescue, rather than the wreck itself. He has woven together 3 accounts of the rescue, adding his own comments and deductions. Where your site (in particular the full surgeons report and your great-great grand-uncle's account) has assisted is in clarifying some points e.g. where the 117 single were picked up from by the rescue boat. Dad had assumed they were picked up from the lighthouse, but this was not the case. As I type this Dad is at our diningroom table working on the proofs of the book adding some information we have gleaned from your site. We are very keen to have the book out by the end of November, when we will be departing on our regualar trip down the Great Ocean Road where we sell many of our books. We already have interest in the book, and a number have been pre-ordered. We would like to seek your agreement to using some of the detail from your site in the book - mainly as clarification of points - and we would like to acknowledge you and your site in the Foreword. As you will realise we are really under pressure to get the detail finalised, so if it is easier for you to contact me by phone, please do on 03 9844 2512 or 0402 831 045. Looking forward to hearing from you and congratulations on an excellent and fascinating site.
