Megan McCawley Friday, 1/19/07, 5:47 AM My G-G-Granparents were passengers on The Netherby;Alfred and Elizabeth Seymour nee Everson, they were newly weds. They settled at Bundamba near Ipswich Qld on a farm they named Stradbrook Farm. My grandmother use to tell us the story of how her grandparents were shipwrecked. She told us they had to throw all their wedding gifts overboard to help keep the ship afloat. Also Alfred was able to swim and helped the other passengers to shore. Alfred died at only 34 years after drinking water polluted by a dead cow. Their first child was born at the end of 1866. Their youngest child Margaret still lives at Bundamba I believe. She was born in 1911. In 1999 a park at Bundanba was named after him. Thanks for the interesting site From: Brisbane Email: mmccawley@bigpond.com What can you share about The Netherby? Friday, 1/19/07, 5:57 AM Thanks Megan and Philip for sharing such great Netherby stories. Its fantastic that there are so many decendants out there who are able to find this site and spread the stories. I have started thinking we should all consider a 150th anniversary trip to King Island in 2016. That gives everyone 9 years to start saving ! Think what a great sized crowd we could put together. If anyone is interested I will start a message forum linked to this site for discussion and planning. ciao Karina

Chris Conn Monday, 1/22/07, 4:17 AM Hi Karina, Chris here again, Barry C emailed your link to me, so glad to see you have added so much more to it & it's great to see all the opthers who have contacted you. I like the idea about a reunion back on KI in 2017. It would be great to meet more folks decended from the Netherby, as I have already met a few now. If it goes ahead it would be great for the Island also. I have a problem though, I for the life of me can not find any info on what happed to Master Parry or Captain Owens after the wreck, I know C. Owens went on to be in charge of two other ships, but don't know where they ended up? Could anybody help me with this info? I would appreciate it. I am not a decendant from the Netherby, but I have a great interest in shipwrecks on KI, mainly through my association with the local KI Museum (still secretary) Keep up the good work folks Bye Chris C From: King Island Tas Email: cconn@kingisland.net.au What can you share about The Netherby? David Berry Tuesday, 3/6/07, 3:09 AM Have just found this site. Your research and presentation are fantastic. My great grandfather Edwin Berry and his older brother Alfred were passengers on the Netherby. I have known the story for many years but now, living in Anglesea where the lighthouse boat came ashore prior to rescue, I am very keen to learn as much as I can and hopefully to contribute to further investigation. Edwin and Alfred remained in Victoria, both working in the sawmilling industry, raising large families and ultimately settling in Melbourne and Gippsland respectively. I have yet to visit King island despite its relative proximity but would welcome the chance to meet with fellow Netherby descendants. I think the idea of a 150th on the island is wonderful David Berry Anglesea, Victoria From: Anglesea Victoria Email: dberry@internode.on.net

Vivienne Dumesny Saturday, 3/31/07, 3:16 AM Hello, John Parry who was Second Officer on the Netherby is my Great Great Grandfather, He is my Mother's Grandfather on her Mother"s side. My Grandmother"s maiden name was Agnes Parry, and she married Alfred Bird in Melbourne Victoria. I have just found your site here as I was looking for any information about my Great Great Grandfather John Parry and the Ship The Netherby. I have just been holidaying in Apollo Bay and I bought Don Charlwood's book in the Tourist Information there on The Wreck Of The Sailing Ship The Netherby, I was so delighted to read it. Am sorry to say that I don't have any knowledge myself what happened to Second Officer John Parry after the shipwreck happened. If anyone has any information at all, I would be very appreciative to hear from them. I am so glad that I have found this site, and I will continue to look at this site often. Thanking you, Vivienne Dumesny re Reddington From: PORT FAIRY VICTORIA 3284 Email: Angel4you546@msn.com What can you share about The Netherby? Second Officer John Parry.

Brian McFarlane Monday, 7/23/07, 9:34 PM For a couple of years now I have believed that my g/g/father, John McFarlane, was a passenger on the Netherby. None of my relatives have ever indicated any awareness of this story. John's first child was born in Ballarat in 1869. I am looking for info that would help me identify my g/g/father with the John McFarlane who appears on the passenger list, though not on the "thankyou" list. I would certainly be interested in the 150th reunion. Many thanks for your site. Brian From: Frankston, Victoria Email: blmcfarlane25@yahoo.com.au What can you share about The Netherby? Bobbie Church.(Mrs.R.A). Saturday, 12/1/07, 4:22 PM My G.Grandparents and three sons came from Jersey on the Netherby. Unfortunately our name was not written correctly in the passenger list or in Don Charlwood's book - Reiden & Renden - should be RERDEN. As far as I know, anyone named RERDEN or descendants thereof in Australia would be related. The original parents,James & Eleanor, had four more children in Melbourne, so there are at least seven branches. Very interesting website - Thank you Karina. Regards Bobbie Church. From: Mooroolbark,Vic. Email: c614@tadaust.org.au
