Sandra Soutter Thursday, 1/21/10, 2:11 PM It is quite a while since I visited your site. You have a wonderful lot of information. I notice that quite a lot of Skerman descendants have visited you. My grandparents were Frederick John & Alice Skerman who eventually settled at a property they called "Rockangle" on the North Pine River. I visited there quit often as a child and wonderful times we had there. From: Nambour Qld Email: moneypenny26@gmail.com

Jennie Adams Thursday, 1/21/10, 5:40 PM Karina, What a great web site! My great great grandparents, Thomas and Caroline Grimes, immigrated on the Netherby and were listed amongst the shipwreckees. Clarrie Grimes who has done a wonderful job of connecting their descendents directed me to your website via his contact with Ann Rutte. I'm really looking forward to hearing more about the reunion. The genealogy freaks in my family are keen to attend! With thanks Jennie From: Queensland Email: jadams54@optusnet.com.au

Colin WATKINS Friday, 6/4/10, 5:47 PM I was introduced to the site by Lesla Soulsby. Hugh Daniel Watkins was my g/g/uncle and I'd been looking for him for some time. These people must have taken weeks to get to Australia in uncomfortable conditions and then to be shipwrecked. It says a lot for their fortitude and courage. He appears to have come with his brother, John, who then went back to England. His wife, Martha, had their son who appears to have been about 1. A fascinating story. Peter Link Saturday, 6/12/10, 5:24 PM An amazing website. My paternal grandmother was a Bartling, descended from Charley and Frederika Bartling - my gg grandparents. They and their family of four, we learn from your site, were shipwrecked on the Netherby. The family had only passed down the fact that Auguste was wrecked on the island. We did not know the names of his parents or brothers and sister until accessing your site. Auguste was the oldest Bartling child on board (who your list says was 10 - he was actually 12 according to the birthdate we have for him). Auguste is my great grandfather, who went on to estalish A. Bartling shoe manufacturers in Collins St Melbourne, carried on by three of his sons until the 1950s. From: Victoria Australia Email: linkfarm@bigpond.com

Clarrie Grimes Wednesday, 7/7/10, 5:05 PM In 2006, I organised a family reunion of descendants of Thomas and Caroline Grimes, who were passengers on the "Netherby". At that time I produced a book for family reading entitled "The Last Voyage of the Netherby", much of which I extracted from the weekly newspaper reports published on board the ship during the voyage. If others would like a copy of this I can organise to send you one at a cost of $20 per copy, if you contact me on the e-mail address or phone 07 41231199 (preferably at night). It is very interesting to see an attempt for a 150th reunion at King Island to which I will be attending. Thanks Ann and Karina. Jennifer Cassidy Thursday, 7/8/10, 7:36 PM Dear Karina, what a fantastic website which I have only recently discovered. I answered a request for information on survivors of the Netherby which I found in the "Desperately Seeking" column of the Herlad Sun here in Melbourne on July 4, 2010 and the response led me to this wonderful website. My great grandfather Thomas Turner was a passenger on the Netherby when it was wrecked on King Island. He was born in Illogen, Cornwall in 1845. The passenger list for the Netherby states that Thomas was 19 years old, his occupation was that of Smith Vicemen and he was bound for Brisbane. However, after the ship wreck and the rescue Thomas must have decided not to travel on to Brisbane as he married my great grandmother Mary Jane (nee Harris) in Bendigo in 1868. They lived in and around Eaglehawk ? Sailors Gully for the rest of their lives (Thomas died in 1916). They had 16 children between 1869 and 1895, 14 of whom survived to adulthood - and there are many, many descendants of this family still living in various parts of Australia. Since I have discovered the story of the Netherby ship wreck, I have realised that our family history story may not have existed if Thomas Turner had made the trek to Brisbane rather than making the decision to make his way to the Bendigo goldfields and marry my great grandmother. I will look forward to further information and additions to this website and I am hoping to be able to attend the reunion in 2016. Thanks again Karina. Donna Dumont Monday, 8/23/10, 5:36 PM My great grandmother, Elizabeth, known as Sarah, Austin was a ten year old child when the Netherby was wrecked on King Island. She related the story of how she found fresh water on the island to my father. She had accompanied her parents, John and Elizabeth from England. The family took up a land grant at South Pine across from the land owned by Thomas Petrie. Sarah married Hans Nielsen (different spellings have been found for the surname). My grandmother, Violet May Nielsen, one of Sarah's many children, then married John Randall. The family grew up at Lawnton, then settled outside of Dayboro. My father, Ernest George Randall (known as Len)is a writer and we have researched a lot about the origins of his family. Dad and I particularly love your website. It has been very helpful. Congratulations. From: Spring Hill, Brisbane Email: johandumont@optusnet.com.au What can you share about The Netherby? I am a descendant of Elizabeth Sarah Austin.

Cass Turner Saturday, 11/27/10, 1:47 AM Robert Nally, (my 2x greatgrandfather), and his first wife Mary (nee Kelly), both Irish, were aboard the Netherby. Mary gave birth to their first child, Michael, in the May during the voyage. They remained in Victoria in the Nathalia area, as farmers. Mary died in 1873 after having another 4 children. Robert remarried, my 2x greatgrandmother, another Irish woman, Mary Raftery and they had two more children including my greatgrandmother Margaret Ellen. Robert is buried at the Nathalia cemetery, but I am not certain of where his first wife is buried. I am simply amazed at my discovery today, of their voyage. I would love to collect more information on them if anyone can help! Cass From: Griffith, NSW Email: turnerholland@bigpond.com
